What's New: March 30th, 2009

We implemented a small change today on the website's homepage. Did you notice it? Maybe not, but now that we tell you make sure to take a look.

It's been a while that we are convinced "Staff Picks" is not a very nice way of promoting animations on the site. It's very subjective and as we very often get super busy working on new features and content, it is also not an exhaustive representation of what is happening on the platform. As a result we are rolling out new ways to highlight animations, that in time should take over our Staff Picks section (which will stay there, but should not be the default way to browse animations).

The first section we added is called "Most Shared". It basically lists the animations that get the most views from users outside of GoAnimate. Let's say you send an email to your friends to ask them to watch your movie and they actually do watch it, then you go up the "Most Shared" list. In the same way if somebody embeds your movie on their website or just adds the link on Facebook for example. And these people watch your movie... BAM! You go up the list. So, to be high on that list you not only have to share your animations with others, but people you share with actually have to watch your animations.

The second section we added is called "Top Animations". Looking at our "Top Rated" section we realized that it was not a very interesting section to browse. The animations in there were not always that great. As a result, we have modified the way we calculate most liked animations and gave it a new name "Top Animations". To go up that list, you need people to rate and recommend your animations... with a twist that we are keeping to ourselves for now, but that should make this section more interesting. :o)

Please take a look at these two sections and let us know if you think they are useful for you to browse and discover content on GoAnimate. Your comments are much appreciated.
